Damned Pets

We just got back from our visit to Utah. We went home for Daphne's doctor appointment and were able to stay 5 days. It felt so good to be home and I hate the letdown of having to come back to Alaska. I love my family & friends so much. I can't believe how big my neices and nephews are getting how much they've changed in just a few months. I can't wait until the day that we will be back in Utah for good and can see our loved ones as much as we want.

Meanwhile, back in Alaska, we had an incident. The dog got to the cat and attacked her :( Merrill took her to the vet and they said she has abdominal bruising, fractured tail and air pockets under her skin from the biting. Our poor baby. Those things are all able to fix themselves but for some reason, she refuses to eat. It has been 5 days and all she does is just lay in the same spot. To get her treated further and see if there were other injuries would cost up to $1500 and we just don't have it. The vet gave us pain meds for her and I have been watering down chicken baby food and forcing her to eat  it via syringe. Right now we are just waiting.

If you can't tell yet, this is the "poor me" blog post. I have more venting to do yet. My little Isaac has been taking our return to Alaska very hard. He misses his Dad so much. I wish there were a way to have it all. I don't want to deprive him of his family. It's so complicated. I know that we are giving him a good life and that he can look back and be proud of all he has experienced but as for today, he's hurting and I wish I could make it all better.

Fortunately, we are grateful to have what we do here. Isaac has made some great friends and has gotten right back into his routine of going out to play and having fun. I am especially thatnkful for the Hubby. I know that all of this is hard on him too. He keeps me grounded and sane. That's it for now...Toodles

Here's Stanley

This is Mr. Stanley, our newest addition to our family. We adopted him last week from Loving Companions here in Fairbanks. When we first met him, he was so rowdy and just pulled and pulled on the leash until it broke off and he took off running! We had begun to lose hope but Hubby took him for a walk and he mellowed out so quickly. He just needed a bit of attention. One nice thing about the rescue was that they do a two week home trial to be sure that you are a good fit.

We took him home and have been impressed with him ever since (with the exception of him jumping the back fence).  He is so mellow and well-behaved, he's completely house broken and is such a quick learner. He only has to be told once or twice and he gets it, no fence jumping included. We are in love :) There is just one downside that we are working on and that is the cat chasing. He wants our kitty so bad, just to play, and chases her whenever he sees her. She has been forced to hide upstairs in our bedroom where she only comes down to potty. Poor thing, I hope they will get used to each other eventually.

Stanley is so great with the kids too and they just love him to pieces. I am so glad that we adopted an older dog, he's just amazing.

My ShihTzu Is Such A Whore

Every time we take Daisy out to potty she takes off running to the nearest person for loves. I am soooo offended! We have to always keep her on a leash now because she doesn't listen worth a damn and she gets a huge payoff when she greets strangers. They pick her up and love on her and adore her, feeding her little ego.  Her favorite person to visit is our neighbor upstairs who refers to herself as "Daisy's Grandma". Daisy runs up there and waits at the screen door until her Grandma comes out to hold her and love on her. I feel like she hates us! Yes, she gives me lots of loves and is always excited to see me but why must she approach every damn person in our apartment complex? Today took the cake though. The UPS guy dropped off a package for me and I brought it in. I realize a couple minutes later that Daisy is missing. She snuck right past me. Sure enough, the UPS guy comes walking back to the door with Daisy in tow. She tried to follow him into his truck. At least he thought it was funny. What's a girl got to do to get this dog to stop whoring around?
