We're Here!!!

After seven days, we are FINALLY here! My phone doesn't receive data out here so I couldn't update my facebook or check my email or connect with the real world and I have been DYING! So much has happened that I don't know where to start or what to include here, but I guess I'll just give you the overview.

We spent Thursday night in Bellingham and then got on the ferry Friday afternoon. I could not believe how small the cabins were and it was kinda gross. Thankfully the view was gorgeous. We spent 4 days on water then we arrived in Haines. We drove to Haines Junction where we stayed the night in this cool little cabin style motel. When we woke up the next morning it was covered in snow. We would have normally made it from Haines to Fairbanksw in about 8 hours but with the weather it took us 12. Luckily, the weather cleared up about half way there. We saw several moose in the road on the way too, Pretty cool. The drive was so beautiful, I've never seen anything like it. I can't believe how well the kiddo did throughout all of this. He was happy as a clam playing his DS.

We arrived in Fairbanks late last night and are staying at a hotel on post for now. It is ridiculously cold already and really gloomy but it does seem to be a pretty decent city. There is a walmart, coffee shops, fred meyer and lots of restaurants. I've got a city guide that has a lot of fun stuff going on this month. I think we will be okay. Hopefully we can look at houses this weekend. And I will have pictures as soon as I can get my hands on a USB cable.

Can't leave it at that though, there were a few issues on the way.

1. Canadians aren't friendly, that's a myth. And they really do have gravy on their fries. It was on all of the menus.

2. While driving through the Yukon we encountered a gas station that was out of gas...wha? Also, lots of the businesses were boarded up and "closed for the winter"

3. The Ferry charges $1 for clean towels and for refills on coffee...UNACCEPTABLE!!!

4. Gas is like $4 a gallon out here y'all

5. Our truck/car/whatever is amazing. She was such a good girl! I was so glad we had her when we left Haines Junction. It really is a scary drive

6. Praise Oprah for Phillipa Gregory. I finished two more of her books on this trip.

7. I think we may need to put the kiddo in rehab. His DS is now like crack and I am slowly trying to wean him off. Whoops
