Yup, I Still Live in Alaska

I'm currently fighting a cold and hiding out in my bedroom. Hubby is playing video games in the living room and tends to get very heated, which causes us all to sort of scatter. Daphne is playing with her toys, Isaac with his video games in his room and I'm in bed realizing I haven't blogged in a very long time.
Our best news is Miss Daphne is walking and needing very few appointments. Isaac is just awesome. I love him so much and he's so much fun to be around. There isn't much to do here but we make the best of it. The other day we got to try out the ice park and it was really fun for the kids. Isaac loved the ice slides and there were even some small enough for Daphne.
I'm tending kiddos during the day and its been a lot of fun. They are all so different and I get such a kick out of watching them interact with each other. Daphne is the stinker of the bunch and doesn't like to share. Thankfully, the rest are sweethearts and very patient with her. I think so far, so good. I'm down to girls only and I like it better that way. They just get along so well and love doing little crafts and reading books. They are absolutely adorable.
A big thing we have happening is that we were offered Fort Riley in Kansas come reenlistment but Hubby plans to decline. That leaves us stuck in Alaska an extra year BUT we just may be getting out of the Army! Can't begin to tell you how happy that makes me. I want our kids to know our family and be close to them. I miss it so much.
This is all I feel like typing from my phone but I'll have more soon. Thanks for reading :)

Bits of Fairbanks

Above is just a pic of the city from the freeway. It was about noon and you can see how close the sun is to the horizon.
I have no idea what this building is but it's shut down. When the sun is out this thing is BRIGHT pink. Ugliest building ever!
This is a local antique shop.
There are so many of these damn ravens around. I can't help but laugh when I see them because they're seriously obese! There are dozens of them in the walmart parking lot. Last year we saw one carry away an entire subway sandwich while this guys back was turned.
Haven't been here but the building is interesting. There are a lot of buildings that have pictures painted on them. It's definitely a different feel than the ones back home.

The weather here has been around 15 below. I honestly didn't even understand what that meant before coming here. Your skin actually stings when you step out, it really does hurt! The people here are used to it though. The kids can go out for recess up to 20 below. Everyone just survives it somehow. For halloween they just buy the costumes really big so kids can wear snow suits underneath. Snow pants, boots, gloves and hats are absolutely required at school. Isaac came home last week spouting off facts about frost bite. Apparently they had speakers come to the school and tell them ALL about it. We're doing okay for now but I definitely don't want to be here long. At least we will have adventures to tell after all of this military life is done with :)

Nobody Told Me

Nobody told me how GROSS little boys are! Yes, I should have known better but I am honestly surprised every day by the amount of nasty displayed by my nine year old. Anyone else have this problem or am I just doing a poor job? I'm finding boogers on the couch cushions and dirty underpants strewn about the house. If the toilet isn't left unflushed, it's clogged. I have to inspect him after every shower because he stinks and is getting acne. He also does a piss poor job of brushing his teeth and I send him back sometimes five times before he does it properly.

I punish, I lecture, I try to help....He just isn't getting it. BOYS ARE SO GROSS

Vent complete.

Dog vs Baby

My little Daphne and our dog, Stanley, have a very interesting relationship. She abuses him and he adores her anyway. When I bring her downstairs in the morning, the first thing he does is run over to her and lick her face. If he decides that he wants to sit in his kennel, she follows him and sits directly in front of it so that he can't leave unless she lets him. He sits there patiently while she pulls all of his blankets out and puts random items in for him to chew on.
When Stanley seems to be enjoying a particular toy, she rips it from his mouth and he just sits there. What a pushover. If she is upset with ME for something, she hits Stanley.  If she's bored, she hits Stanley. Her worst encounter came the other day when she took a rawhide from his mouth and proceeded to chew on it herself. Soooo gross. Bad baby...Good dog.
